Union priest Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday made the very first 5G contact a test network set up at IIT Madras using indigenously-developed telecommunications gears.

At present, telecommunications companies have actually been permitted to only perform test of 5G services.
The 5G test-bed has been developed as a multi-institute joint project by 8 institutes led by IIT Madras.
In the absence of a 5G test-bed, start-ups and other sector gamers were needed to travel to examination and also confirm their products for installation in a 5G network.
