Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba shared a video clip of objections including a faceoff in between burqa-clad girls as well as saffron-scarved boys and also claimed that Hindutva crowds were bothering Muslim girls.
French football celebrity Paul Pogba has delved into the Karnataka hijab row with the Manchester United midfielder sharing a video clip of demonstrations including a faceoff between burqa-clad ladies and also saffron-scarved boys.
The 28-year-old footballer shared the clip, initially uploaded from an account named ‘_. islamismydeen. _’, on his Instagram tale and also captioned it: “Hindutva mobs continue to pester Muslim women putting on hijab to college in India.” Pogba is the 2nd famous International figure to speak on the Karnataka hijab row after human rights activist Malala Yousufzai.
Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai had earlier reacted to the hijab dispute in Karnataka, claiming “refusing to let women go to college in their hijabs is horrible” and “leaders need to quit the marginalisation of Muslim ladies”.
Malala made the comments while sharing a report on the hijab row where several Muslim trainees across various federal government colleges in Karnataka were banned from entering university properties using hijab.
Meanwhile, the Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi-led bench, making up Justice Krishna S Dixit as well as Justice JM Khazi, on Thursday heard applications by Muslim trainees against restrictions on putting on hijab. The bench chose to listen to the matter once more on Monday, February 14, and also asked pupils not to put on any spiritual garments till the issue is pending with the court.
Colleges in Karnataka can reopen but students can not be permitted to put on any piece of garments that is spiritual till the issue is pending, Principal Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi stated.
The global focus on the Karnataka hijab row has now triggered speculation of an intricate ‘toolkit’ in the making.
