Senior lawyer Mukul Rohatgi will certainly return as the Chief law officer of India, the federal government’s leading legal representative, after KK Venugopal retires, resources said today.

Mr Venugopal’s prolonged tenure will end on September 30. He functioned as the Centre’s top legislation officer for five years.

When he finished three years in 2020, Mr Venugopal, 91, requested the Centre to allow him go due to his age. The federal government requested him to proceed for one more term. He remained on, however only for an additional year.

Mukul Rohatgi will start his 2nd job on October 1, sources say.
