The updated top-tier Model 3 Performance brings new competition to the high-performance sedan market.

The 2024 Model 3 Performance starts at $54,990, but with the $7,500 federal tax credit, the price drops to $47,490, making it one of the most affordable performance sedans available. “A lot of buyers of this car are former BMW M owners,” said Nic Cruz Patane, who frequently posts about Tesla on X.

“I had a BMW M2 before I got my Model 3 Performance, and there’s no comparison,” commented one person on Patane’s feed. “I enjoyed the sound and handling of the M2, but the Model 3 Performance is better in every way. I’ll never go back to gas,” they added. Other longtime BMW owners who have switched to the Model 3 Performance also praised its value and performance.

To summarize, the 2024 Model 3 refresh features styling updates to both the front and rear, along with several other improvements. These include “frequency response dampeners” for a smoother ride, a quieter cabin, and a rear entertainment screen for passengers, among other enhancements.

The Performance Model 3 comes with a range of exclusive upgrades, including:

Horsepower: The 2024 Model 3 Performance has 510 horsepower, up from 455 in the 2023 model.

0–60 mph: It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds, faster than the 3.1 seconds of the 2023 Performance model.

New drive unit: The new Performance 4DU drive unit provides up to 22% more continuous power, 32% more peak power, and 16% more peak torque, offering quicker and more consistent acceleration.

All-New Adaptive Damping: This new system, exclusive to the 2024 Model 3 Performance, adjusts automatically to driver input and road conditions to improve ride quality and handling.

Handling: Track Mode V3 now combines motor controls, suspension, powertrain cooling, and Tesla’s Vehicle Dynamics Controller (VDC) into one integrated system, thanks to the new Adaptive Damping.

Interior tweaks: The new Sport seats have better side support and other interior improvements.

2025 BMW M3 Competition xDrive: The 2025 M3 Competition xDrive now has 523 horsepower, up from the previous model. The torque remains at 479 pound-feet, so it still goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, just like the 2024 model. Although it’s a gas car, it competes with the Model 3 Performance in terms of both price and performance (see the performance details in the infographic above).
