Former President Donald Trump plans to share his economic ideas and criticize the “problems caused by the Harris-Biden Administration” at a rally in North Carolina on Wednesday. However, he’s facing criticism from union workers for supporting the firing of employees who go on strike, a topic he discussed with Tesla CEO Elon Musk earlier this week.

The United Automobile Workers (UAW) union has filed charges with federal labor regulators, accusing Trump of intimidation. This rally in Asheville, North Carolina, is Trump’s second in two weeks, showing a slower pace for his campaign.

Recently, Trump has been on the defensive as the Democratic ticket, led by Vice President Kamala Harris, gains momentum. Reports suggest Trump’s campaign is trying to get him back on track after several events where he seemed less focused on policy. A new survey shows Harris catching up to Trump in key swing states like Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. They’re tied in Georgia.

In a lengthy conversation between Trump and Musk, they discussed various topics, including an assassination attempt on Trump, government regulations, and worker strikes. Trump praised Musk for firing workers who went on strike, saying, “If workers strike, you say, ‘That’s okay, you’re all gone.'”

However, federal law prohibits companies from firing striking employees. The UAW filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board on Tuesday. UAW President Shawn Fain criticized Trump, saying, “When we say Donald Trump is a scab, this is what we mean.” Sean O’Brien, President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, agreed, calling the firing of workers for striking “economic terrorism.”

Interestingly, before his conversation with Musk, Trump had made some remarks that were more supportive of labor. O’Brien spoke at the recent Republican National Convention, calling Trump “one tough SOB.”
